The “Palace” distinction, awarded by Atout France, epitomizes the excellence of French hospitality. Since its creation in 2010, it has recognized 5-star establishments offering exceptional services. In 2024, a significant reform was introduced to strengthen the attribution criteria and ensure an ever-higher level of excellence.

2.Shortened award duration

As of October 1, 2024, the validity period of the “Palace” distinction has been reduced from five to three years. This change aims to ensure more frequent evaluations of establishments, thereby guaranteeing the sustained delivery of outstanding service.

3.Strengthened eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the “Palace” distinction, an establishment must now:

• Be classified as a 5-star hotel.

• Demonstrate at least 24 months of continuous activity.

• Comply fully with all strengthened criteria of the 5-star classification grid.

These criteria particularly emphasize the quality of facilities, personalized service, and excellence in guest reception.

4.A two-phase attribution process

The awarding process for the “Palace” distinction consists of two stages:

1. Instruction phase: Atout France verifies that the establishment meets the reinforced eligibility criteria.

2. Evaluation phase: An independent commission assesses the quality of the establishment, notably through visits and audits.

5.Newly awarded “Palace” establishments

According to Luxe Magazine, six establishments have recently been awarded the “Palace” distinction:

• Hôtel Lutetia (Paris)

• Cheval Blanc (Saint-Tropez)

• Villa La Coste (Puy-Sainte-Réparade)

• Château de Saint-Martin & Spa (Vence)

• Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc (Antibes)

• Hôtel Le K2 Palace (Courchevel)

6.Recent renewals of the distinction

Several establishments have renewed their “Palace” distinction in accordance with the new requirements:

• La Réserve Paris
